Scientists of the Stavropol State Agrarian University have identified reserves for the development of dairy farming in the region

08.04.2022

The development of dairy farming in the region was discussed in the regional Ministry of Agriculture at a meeting chaired by the first deputy chairman of the government of the region Vladimir Nikolaevich Sitnikov. The meeting was attended by the acting rector of SSAU Valentin Sergeevich Skripkin, scientists of the Agrarian University, representatives of agricultural enterprises.

The head of SSAU made a report on the factors hindering the development of animal husbandry in the region and outlined reserves for the development of the industry.

"The analysis of milk production in all categories of farms of the Stavropol Territory shows that the highest gross level is observed in the districts: Alexandrovsky, Kochubeyevsky, Andropovsky, Foothill, Shpakovsky and in the districts: Izobilnensky, Ipatovsky and Novoaleksandrovsky.

At the same time, there are no agricultural enterprises for milk production in 13 districts of the region, which is a reserve for the formation of industrial milk production in these territories. Meanwhile, if investment projects in the field of dairy cattle breeding are implemented there, it will reduce the problem of employment, since labor costs in dairy cattle breeding are higher than in other industries," said the acting rector of SSAU.

It was also about reducing the acreage of fodder crops and, as a result, reducing milk production by 15% in all categories of farms.

Unbalanced feeding diets, the spread of hidden subclinical forms of mastitis is also the reason for a decrease in dairy productivity of cows by 15-45%.

At the same time, the technical capabilities of the laboratory of milk quality control on the basis of the SSAU allow us to conduct the necessary studies on milk quality, including ketosis, acidosis, urea, somatic cell structure, milk fat structure, and the structure of milk fatty acids. However, not all milk producers are covered by this service – only 8 breeding farms out of 34.

"We propose to provide subsidies at the regional level for the study of milk quality on the Danish device Combifoss 7ds, which will cover all producers of raw milk and improve the quality of dairy raw materials," said Valentin Sergeevich.

Among the proposals are also to develop, within the framework of state contracts, a list of zootechnical, breeding-genetic, veterinary measures to improve the efficiency of livestock production in farms of all forms: agricultural enterprises, farms, private farms. To continue the system of professional retraining of agricultural personnel, to activate career guidance work in all municipalities.

Following the meeting, scientists of the Stavropol State Agrarian University, in particular, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor, head of the Milk Laboratory Sergey Alexandrovich Oleinik visited four production facilities: the collective farm named after Lenin of the Apanasenkovsky district, the Collective Farm "Rodina" of the Apanasenkovsky district, the Druzhba Breeding Plant of the Apanasenkovsky district and the Second Five-Year Plan Breeding Plant of the Ipatovsky district. Experts examined agricultural enterprises and outlined a roadmap for joint work.
