3D- implant for unique surgery was modelled in Stavropol State Agrarian University for the first time in the South of Russia

3D- implant for unique surgery was modelled in Stavropol State Agrarian University for the first time in the South of Russia.

In Stavropol Regional Hospital for the first time in the North Caucasus Federal District and Southern Federal District was conducted an implantation surgery. The implant was printed on the 3D-printer of titanium in Stavropol State Agrarian University on the equipment of the Centre for Youth Innovative Creativity Fablab “VECTOR”, said the head of the centre Egor Kulaev.

The implant as made of titanium alloy with the production support of “CYBERCOM” (Moscow) - a partner of the centre, leading supplier of equipment and solving problems in 3D-printing-and 3D-scanning.

The patient was seriously injured in an accident. The resulting implant exactly went into a zone of lost bone of the skull, and the operation was successful.

“Technologies of the centre allow to obtain not only such implants, but physical copies of any organ of the human body, which significantly helps surgeons during high precision operations”, - said Yegor Kulaev.

Let us remind that the first individual implant made of plastic using the 3D-Printer for cranioplasty was created in the North Caucasus for the first time in SSAU in 2010, and was set by the main neurosurgeon of Stavropol Territory, Candidate of Medicine, CMO - Chief Medical Officer of Stavropol Regional Hospital Rostislav Mozheyko .

The proficiency Fablab “VECTOR” team from Stavropol State Agrarian University has been proven this year in Moscow in the final of the National Championship of working professions WorldSkills Russia 2016 in the competence “Prototyping” in the block “Future Skills”.

SSAU was represented by three people:

Participant - student of the 3rd year of Agricultural Mechanization Faculty Fedor Zavyalik,

The Head of digital 3D-technology school for school students at Fablab “Vector”, an expert coach Denis S. Kalugin, assistant of the department “Mechanics and Computer Graphics”.

and the head of the centre Egor Kulaev.

Fedor Zavyalik won in “Future Skills” block in the competence “Prototyping” and was enlisted as a candidate for the national team of Russia in the world championship World Skills Abu Dhabi 2017 which will be held in the United Arab Emirates, 14-17 October 2017.
