Participation in the First Stavropol Regional Environmental Forum
Scientists of the Stavropol State Agrarian University took part in a large-scale forum dedicated to the Year of Ecology in Russia and to the Year of Especially Protected Natural Territories in the Stavropol Territory.
On September 8, in Zheleznovodsk, the first regional environmental forum was held, with Vladimir Vladimirov, Governor of the Stavropol Territory, deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, regional parliamentarians, representatives of the regional executive authorities, municipalities, scientific, cultural, educational and public organizations. The event was aimed at uniting the efforts of the executive and legislative authorities of the region, local authorities, scientific, cultural and educational organizations to preserve the ecology of the Stavropol Territory.
The Ecological Forum started with the opening of the exhibition of achievements of various organizations in the field of environmental protection in the region. The Agrarian University was represented by the Dean of the Faculties of Agrobiology and Land Resources and Ecology and Landscape Architecture, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Esaulko and Associate Professors of the Department of Ecology and Landscape Construction, Candidates of Science Julia Mandra and Oleg Gudiev. Within the framework of the installation, scientists told about the achievements of the Stavropol State Agrarian University in the field of agroecological monitoring; technologies of environmental health biodiagnosis; design of ecological paths in the wildlife preserves of the region; production of ecologically safe food products; ecological restoration of landscapes and landscaping of territories, implementation of international environmental grants. At the same time, it was noted that the achievement of the presented results became possible due to the close attention of the head of the university, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor Vladimir Trukhachev to the issues of popularizing environmental education and the relevance of conducting eco-oriented research.
Then a plenary session took place, the main theme of which was the implementation of the state policy in the sphere of environmental protection in the territory of the Stavropol Territory in the context of the Year of Ecology and the Year of Specially Protected Natural Territories. The report was made by the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Andrei Khlopyanov. Gennady Yagubov welcomed the participants and noted that in the Duma of the Stavropol Territory the issues of ecology and nature management have always been among the priority. In this area, 9 basic laws are in force in the region, and work continues on bringing existing regulatory and legal acts in line with changing federal legislation. Also at the control of the regional deputies there are urgent problems for the whole country and for our region. Among them, the handling of solid domestic waste, the harmful effects of industrial production emissions, the state of water bodies. Olga Timofeeva, chairwoman of the State Duma Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection, drew the attention of the audience to the fact that among the most problematic issues remains garbage processing, the elimination of old landfills, water pollution, and air quality.
After the plenary session, the work of the environmental forum was continued at the discussion sessions on the topics: "Introduction of a modern system for handling solid municipal waste. Problems and prospects "; "Development of the Caucasian Mineral Waters taking into account the ecological and resort component"; "Environmental supervision. Powers and gap of realization".
In the opinion of the organizers, the First Regional Environmental Forum will help to reflect in the new strategy of the region the best practices for the implementation of environmental projects.
